Help had an Over flow

Post  bpear on Wed Feb 10, 2010 1:16 pm

Brewed on Saturday, mid day Monday discovered over flow through the air lock, plugged up the holes on the top cap, cleaned out the cap reinstalled. Should I be concerned at this point, I'm still showing good fermentation in the air lock just needed to top it off with fluid? I plan on racking to secondary next weekend. I hope that I did not screw this one up?

Sounds like you needed a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Either that or foam control drops. Bob at Kennywood carries those.

I wouldn't be concerned. As long as things were flowing out and not back in you'll be fine.

This happened to me for the first time with a Weizenbock I brewed a few weeks back. I actually had to connect a blowoff tube and let it go for a few days into a bucket flled with some sanitizer. I just connected a 5/16" hose, I think that was the size, to my airlock (3 piece model). Like Eric said no big deal. I use sanitizer in my air locks, I know that some people use vodka, that way if any gets in the beer it won't hurt anything.

Everything has settled down now. I do use Vodka in my airlock and I had about a quarter cup of beer come out on top of the lid. I think everything should be ok. Thanks again.
