Feelin' hoppy?
I experimented with "hop-bursting" today.
I used no bittering hops, but I did use more than a pound of hops in the last 20 minutes of the boil.
Including first-wort-hopping, boiling, and hop-back, I used over 17 ounces of hops in a 6 gallon batch...so far.
5 more ounces to come between dry-hopping and a hop tea infusion.
So I got too wondering who the real "hop-heads" in our club are, and how strong (hop weight/ibus/abv) their hoppiest have been.
The batch I did today was by far my hoppiest...it will eat a total of 22.25 ounces!
My ibu rating is somewhere around 116 (before dry-hopping + tea) with OG = 1.087
I will try and post a pic of the leftover pile...if it doesn't post it here, I'll put it in the gallery section.

Re: Feelin' hoppy?
In this batch, I plan on adding hops in every way known to me, including:
-First wort hopping
-hop bursting (3x hops added all within the last 20 minutes of boil for extreme hop aroma/flavor)
-hopback
-dryhopping
-hop tea
If anyone else knows of another way I can add hop flavor to this (without hop extract) please let me know.
Yes, I have considered drafting it through a randal.
I sure hope this batch is every bit as green with hoppy-ness as I plan.

Wow, sounds (smells) interesting, that's a heap of hops. My largest usage has only been 4 oz. Just a rookie here, I plan on cranking up the hops on my next batch.
Just brewed a light American Blonde Ale for mama to enjoy....Let us know how this hopzilla brew works out.
